bringing paint to life
LIFE-LIKE OIL PAINTINGS THAT OFFER A REFRESHINGLY MODERN TAKE ON STILL LIFE
We all have our “thing” that sparks joy at the mere sight of it. For me, that thing is and always has been fruit. Any kind of fruit - apples, peaches, pears, plums, oranges, grapes, watermelon…you get the idea. For as long as I can remember I’ve always been drawn to fruit imagery. I love the distinct colours, shapes, textures and lustre that characterize different fruits and make them all unique. In my work, I aim to distill these unique characteristics and magnify them in larger-than-life round oil paintings.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Stephanie Arn is a realist painter born and raised in Toronto, where she currently works out of her backyard studio. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Queen's University. After completing her BFA in 2015, she set off to complete her Bachelor of Education at the University of Ottawa, where her artistic career also started to take off. For the first few years, she was occupied with commissioned portraits of pets, wedding photos, and photos of all sorts. The beginning of the pandemic marked a new beginning in her artistic pursuit as she began to create work that stemmed from her own interests and curiosities. The isolation and solitude of this period created space for creative exploration and introspection which resulted in her primary body of work - larger-than-life oil paintings of fruits on round panels.
